Various solutions for your success

A sure long-range shot begins with Carl Zeiss. You’ll certainly finish it off. Carl Zeiss helps you with simple and precise ballistic solutions for riflescopes and binoculars. The bullet drop compensation (ASV) mechanically compensates for bullet drop and is extremely accurate. Select range and take aim: that’s it. The Rapid-Z® reticle shows you the holdover points for a sure shot. The BIS® in your rangefinder determines the centimetres higher you need to hold your load. All solutions provide for a precise, expert long-range shot.

Measuring distances with the laser rangefinder

For hunting over short distances of between 50 m and 150 m the themes of "ballistics" and "bullet drop" play a fairly insignificant role. However, shooting at long range is a different matter altogether. Without you, as marksman, compensating for the bullet drop there is no chance of precision shooting at long range, and therefore no guarantee of hunting success. In order to correct this situation the first thing to do is to estimate - or better still, measure the distance. For this you can use the ZEISS laser rangefinder, which gives you the accuracy to make your long-range shot.

The innovative laser system of the ZEISS Victory RF (Rangefinder) binoculars and the Victory Diarange riflescopes allows you to measure with speed and precision distances of well over 1000 m. Knowing the distance gives you confidence in deciding whether or not to make the shot and how to compensate for the bullet drop. You are in control of the situation and can focus completely on the shot itself.

The measurement is made when the device sends short impulses from an invisible (infrared) laser light that is safe for the eyes. The finely bundled beam of light hits the target in your sights and is reflected. The returning light, the "echo", is picked up by the lens and registered by sensors inside the device. It is not the actual distance that is measured but the time between sending and receiving the laser beam. A microprocessor uses this time to calculate the distance to the exact metre and in a fraction of a second this is shown on the display in the eyepiece.

By pressing a button on the binoculars the target mark is first superimposed. The actual measurement is taken by pressing the button again - or with ZEISS RF products, releasing it .This gives rapid results and enables calmer target acquisition, optimised to ensure a successful hunt.

Available solutions in the overview

Below you can find the overwiew of the different bullet drop compensators (Attention: not all riflescopes can be combined with ASV). For true specialists the ASV, ASV+ and ASV LongRange are also available with side adjustment. The same technology can be used to compensate with great precision for side winds and any deviation in rotation.

ASV LongRange (rings)

Thanks to the larger adjusting range with 100 clicks, the ASV LongRange allows you to maintain your aim even at long distances. The different scales are on 10 easily excangebale, engraved metal rings, which are also simple and quick to install.

ASV+ (rings)

To fact that shooting distance is clearly displayed makes the ASV+ the most intuitive and therefore the most precise ballistic consept on the market. It enables a maximum operating range of distances up to 600 meters. As with the ASV LongRange, the scales are on 10 easily exchangeable, engraved metal rings, which are also simple and quick to install.

ASV (foils)

ASV comes with metal foils for different calibres, which are then bonded to the ASV turret. The adjustment button with the appropriate adhesive foil can be simply adjusted to the required distance.

ASV for CONQUEST DL

Operations of the ASV for the CONQUEST DL range is quick and precise. Thanks to the linear scale of 1 cm per click to 100 m, the measured shooting distance can be set exactly and provides a maximum operating range during hunting. It is available as on the 2-8 x 42 and 3-12 x 50 models.

Usage of the ASV

Adjusting the ASV lock rings on the riflescope compensates for bullet drop in order to maintain precise aiming, even at long range. The disrance is set using a fine distance scale, supplied by ZEISS for all current load types. The scale allows you to aim accurately over all hunting distances.

To adjust the ASV for aiming over longer distances simply lift the non-slip knob slightly and turn it. When it is released it will click back into place. In this way you can avoid any inadvertent adjustments. At 100 m the ASV has a lock for ease of handling in the dark. You can rely on the most intuitive ballistic solutions on the market.

Bullet drop compensation, ballistic competence

Knowing the distance to the target is very important for any hunter. This automatically raises the question of what level of bullet drop there will be, based on the distance to the target and how to compensate for it. Carl Zeiss is the only company to offer three different solutions to this problem. You can choose the option that best suits your requirements and preferences and then you will be ready to enjoy successful hunting in wide open terrain!
